Bio and experience

Matt Carter has over 20 years of journalism experience and is a financial expert on mortgages, title insurance, budgeting, student loans, and real estate services. He writes financial content to help readers make smart decisions about borrowing and managing their existing debt. 

As a journalist, Matt has covered local government, development issues, and the environment. He was the managing editor for over eight years at Inman News before becoming its current mortgage editor and has contributed his financial expertise to CNBC, CNN Money, Consumer Reports, Money, USA Today, U.S. News & World Report, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, Inman News, and Yahoo Finance.

Matt won the National Association of Real Estate Editors award for his series on the collapse of subprime mortgage lending.

Education

Matt studied journalism at San Francisco State University, contributing to the student newspaper and interning at the Oakland Tribune.
